Frequently asked questions.
Honest answers about what FightThis is and isn't.
What FightThis is and isn't
Is this legal advice?
No. Explicitly not. FightThis is a drafting tool — we help you write a letter you could write yourself with enough time and research. We don't review your case for legal merit. We don't represent you. We don't have an attorney-client relationship with you. For high-stakes situations, hire an attorney.
Are you an AI lawyer?
No. We never use that phrase. "AI lawyer" implies representation and legal advice — things we don't provide. We help you write letters. That's it.
Why is the pricing so low?
Because what we're selling is a letter, not an hour of an attorney's time. We're not providing legal services. The AI drafts the letter in 15 seconds; the model cost is measured in cents; we charge for the value of a well-drafted letter in a specific situation. The $9.99–$49.99 price reflects that.
What makes you different from just using ChatGPT?
Vertical-specific prompts that cite real, verified statutes. Proper letter formatting. Document reading that extracts and uses the specific information from your document. The knowledge that the citations are real (we have a statute reference database). And we're honest about what we are.
What if my case is complicated?
If the dispute involves more than $10,000, ongoing litigation, criminal exposure, or anything emotionally complex, we recommend a real attorney. Many state bars have lawyer referral services with low-cost initial consultations. We can be your first step; we shouldn't be your only step.
Using the service
Do I need an account?
No. You can start without an account. After payment, we auto-create a magic-link account tied to your email so you can access your letters later. No password required — just a magic link in your email.
What file formats do you accept?
JPEG, PNG, PDF, and plain text. Max file size 25 MB. We run OCR on photos and PDFs to extract the text.
What if the OCR misreads something in my document?
You see the extracted text before we generate the letter. You can correct anything that was misread before proceeding.
How long does generation take?
Usually 10–30 seconds. We show progress messages while you wait.
Can I edit the letter after it's generated?
Yes. The downloaded DOCX is fully editable in Word, Google Docs, or any word processor. The PDF is final-formatted; for editing, use the DOCX.
What if the letter has a mistake?
Read it carefully before sending. You're responsible for the contents. If you find a factual error, edit the DOCX before mailing. If the AI clearly fabricated something, contact us — that should not happen and we want to know.
Pricing, payment, and refunds
What does the free preview show?
The complete letter, watermarked. Not a snippet. You see everything before paying.
What does "unlock" cost?
Letter pricing depends on vertical: parking ticket $9.99 · regulatory complaint $19.99 · medical bill or debt dispute $24.99 · insurance appeal $39.99 · IRS notice $49.99. Mailing is optional: $7.99 first-class, $19.99 certified, $24.99 certified with return receipt — or bundle Letter + Certified at checkout for 5% off.
What if I'm not satisfied with my letter?
If you're unhappy with the quality of your letter — the writing, citations, or professional tone — request a free redraft from your account dashboard within 14 days of delivery. We respond within 24 hours and deliver the redraft, typically in 24–48 hours. The quality promise covers the letter itself, not the outcome of your dispute (which depends on the recipient's response).
How does the redraft request process work?
Sign in to your account, find the letter, and click "Request redraft". Tell us what's not working — too generic, missing specific citations, wrong tone, etc. We respond within 24 hours via email and deliver the new version to your account dashboard, typically within 24–48 hours.
Can I get a refund?
Our self-serve quality flow is a free redraft (request it from your account dashboard within 14 days of delivery). If you believe a refund is warranted instead, email support@fightthis.ai with your order details and we'll review it individually. See the refund policy page for complete details.
Is there a subscription?
Not yet in Phase 1. Subscriptions are planned — likely $19/month unlimited generation. We'll add this once we have data on usage patterns.
How does mailing work?
After unlocking, add our mailing service at checkout. We print the letter on commercial-grade paper and mail it via USPS — first-class ($7.99), certified with tracking ($19.99), or certified with return receipt ($24.99). We print your typed name; you review the letter before it's sent.
Your data and privacy
What happens with my documents?
Uploaded documents are encrypted in transit and at rest. Auto-deleted after 30 days unless you request retention. We never train AI models on your data.
Do you share my information?
No, except with the subprocessors necessary to deliver the service (Stripe for payment, Postmark for email, R2 for storage, Anthropic for generation). We never sell data.
Do you use cookies or ad trackers?
No advertising trackers, no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel. We use Plausible Analytics (self-hosted, no cookies, privacy-preserving) for pageviews and conversion tracking. That's it.
How do you handle PHI in insurance and medical documents?
We treat uploaded documents with care. They're encrypted, auto-deleted, and never used for training. We are not a HIPAA covered entity (you're using us voluntarily as a consumer), but we follow secure handling practices consistent with HIPAA principles.
Can I request deletion of my data?
Yes. Email privacy@fightthis.ai and we'll delete your account and all associated documents.
Outcomes and results
Will the letter work?
We can't guarantee any outcome. What we can say: a well-drafted letter citing the right statutes gets taken more seriously than no letter at all. The statistics we cite are real — 53% of properly-filed insurance appeals succeed. Filing is the first step.
What if they deny my appeal again?
There are often multiple levels of appeal — internal appeal, external review, state insurance commissioner complaint, or litigation. A second denial doesn't mean it's over. We can help with the next step too.
What if the letter doesn't work for my parking ticket?
Outcomes vary widely by city. Some jurisdictions dismiss 20–40% of contested tickets; others almost never dismiss. We'll write the strongest case possible with what you provide, but we can't control the reviewer.
Is this guaranteed to win my IRS dispute?
No. Nothing is guaranteed with the IRS. What's guaranteed is that a professional, correctly-cited response is better than ignoring the notice or sending an informal email.
Supported verticals and edge cases
What if I need help with something not on your list?
Join our general waitlist. We're adding verticals based on demand. Immigration appeals, employment letters, and consumer arbitration are high on the list.
Do you handle Medicare and Medicaid appeals?
Not yet. Medicare and Medicaid have separate federal appeal processes with different procedures. We focus on commercial insurance for now.
What about state-specific laws?
Where state law is relevant, we try to apply the correct state statute based on your zip code. But our coverage is deepest for federal laws — the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), ACA, IRS code. State-specific nuance varies.
Can I use this for a business dispute?
FDCPA specifically protects consumers, not businesses. Some other verticals (insurance, medical bills) can apply to sole proprietors. But FightThis is primarily a consumer tool.
What about landlord-tenant disputes?
Not currently supported. High on the waitlist — it's a huge need.
What about employment disputes?
Not currently. Wage theft, EEOC complaints, and wrongful termination letters are on the roadmap.
Mailing your letter
Do I have to mail the letter myself?
No — after unlocking your letter, you can add our mailing service at checkout. We handle printing, postage, and USPS delivery (first-class or certified). Or download the PDF and mail it yourself. Either way.
What is certified mail and do I need it?
Certified mail is a USPS service that gives you a tracking number and requires a signature on delivery. It creates a legal record that your letter was sent and received. For time-sensitive disputes (insurance appeals within 30-day windows, FDCPA validation demands, IRS responses), certified mail is strongly recommended. For low-stakes disputes like parking tickets, first-class mail is usually fine.
Will I get tracking when you mail my letter?
Yes — once the mailing service launches, USPS tracking is included with Certified Mail ($19.99) and Certified + Return Receipt ($24.99). First-Class Mail ($7.99) is untracked.
What if the recipient address is wrong?
Once the mailing service launches, we will validate every address against USPS records before mailing. If it is flagged as undeliverable, we will prompt you to correct it before charging for postage.
How long until my letter arrives once mailed?
First-Class Mail is typically 3–5 business days. Certified Mail (and Certified + Return Receipt) is 5–7 business days, depending on destination.
Can I see proof my letter was delivered?
Yes. Certified Mail includes electronic USPS delivery confirmation. Certified + Return Receipt adds a physical signed card (PS Form 3811) mailed back to you — the legal gold standard if you ever need to prove receipt in court or a formal proceeding.
Legal posture and safety
Is FightThis practicing law?
No. We are a drafting tool, structured specifically to stay on the consumer-tool side of unauthorized practice of law (UPL) rules. We never review case merit, never advise strategy, never represent users. We help you write the letter you were going to write anyway — just better.
What if I send a letter that backfires?
Read everything before you send. If anything in the letter doesn't match your situation, edit it. You're responsible for what you sign and send. Our terms make this clear, and it's genuinely true.
What if the company I'm disputing sees that I used FightThis?
Every letter includes a footer: "This letter was drafted with the assistance of FightThis (fightthis.ai), a drafting tool." We don't hide this. A well-crafted letter is a well-crafted letter regardless of how it was drafted.
